Places for dessert in Munich

We can all taste the sweet temptations awaiting us all around. The reward after a stressful day and the ice-cold way to cool down on a hot summer day. There is often infinite choice, and finding the perfect type of ice cream, type of cake, or dessert from foreign shores in an ocean of a thousand sins is often difficult. We would like to present to you our small but excellent favourite sugar hits in Munich, and we certainly have something for every taste here.

Because Monday may just never shake off its poor image, and because spirits are often only slightly raised. Because an afternoon low often overtakes you more than you want, or because you just love its aroma... We have hunted for Munich's best coffee kick and present to you our favourite place for terrific coffee...

The 'Verrückte Eismacher': Ice cream from the enchanted forest

An ice cream always goes down well, and at the 'Verrückte Eismacher' choosing is significantly harder than at 'Giovanni' around the corner. How about a roast pork ice cream with a wheat bear scoop on top? Or one, two or three scoops of sorbet, which would raise the pulses of the vegans of this world. Children's dreams become just as true with Nutella bread and Bueno ice cream, as adult ones do with Gin and Tonic and hemp ice cream.

You can taste the ice cream right on site in the fitting Alice in Wonderland atmosphere. To get there, just take the U3/U& U-Bahn from our Cocoon hotels to the 'Universität' stop.

Der Verrückte Eismacher:
Opening hours: daily 12:00 to 21:00
Address: Amalienstraße 77, 80799 Munich

Gartensalon: The childhood tree house in the centre of Munich

Between a couple of houses in a small courtyard and in the centre of Maxvorstadt lies Gartensalon. A colourful place with plenty of lovely details, and particularly good home-made cakes. The place reminds you of your visit to Grandma, where there were always a smell of fresh apple pie and you didn't want to stop playing in the garden until it was dark. At the Gartensalon you can escape day-to-day life, even if it is in the centre of the city. A short tram journey ending at the 'Schellingstraße' stop with line 27/28 takes you to the Gartensalon from our Cocoon hotels.

Find what you fancy from the different types of cake, enjoy a good shot of coffee, or sweeten up your day with a home-made lemonade. The highlight to finish off with: You can put together your own colourful bag at the counter. Just like in days of old.

Mochis: The trendy dessert from Japan

In Munich, you will find Kaiserschmarren on every corner. Finding Mochis is somewhat more difficult. The Japanese rice cakes are not only popular with bloggers, but also with anyone wanting something sweet and sticky. We find that the best ones are at 'J-Bar', which is also worth a visit for a starter and main course, J-Bar is small and traditional, with low prices for Munich standards. So make the trip from Munich to Japan and enjoy this tasty Japanese dessert. You can eat Kaiserschmarren the next day.

J-Bar

Coffee at Viktualienmarkt

It goes without saying that Viktualienmarkt must not be missing from a trip to Munich. But the trip is not only worth it for ticking your to-do list, but much more for drinking a really good coffee at the lads of the market's coffee roasting house.

Coffee is a passion here - and you can taste it. The best Arabica and Robusta beans, carefully roasted in the drum roaster following a traditional recipe, come together in the cup with regional Alpine milk from contented cows from the Berchtesgarden region. Enjoy your coffee overlooking the Viktualienmarkt, watch the hustle and bustle, and then dive straight back into the turmoil of the city.

Searching for Latte or syrup at MVSM in vain, which is why coffee specialists are celebrated here with a great deal of love. But it is not just coffee that makes the difference. A good setup also helps. White tiled walls, deep window ledges and the crocodile logo looking at you from all sides.

Only a short tram ride with tram 27/28 from Stachus takes you to the Nordenstraße stop. Scarcely off and you are in front of one. Café Morso. La Dolce Vita in the centre of Munich.

Cappuccino in your hand, Tramezzini in your mouth, and watching the hustle and bustle on Nordendstraße – this is Café Morso. Try completely authentic coffee for yourself, fresh Tramezzini and Florentine, and get the bug for Italian coolness.

The cosy coffee bar

Admittedly, it is not a real 'secret tip', but it is still worth a visit and the inhabitants of Munich love this small and cosy coffee bar.

Glockenbach is unthinkable without the Aroma Coffee Bar, an icon of Pestalozzistraße for creativity and enjoying coffee since 1998. The perfect place for a break after a shopping trip. It is a difficult choice, and with over 20 different versions of coffee from seven different types it can take quite a while to decide. Here you will find unusual bread for your break, snazzy 'Bresn', and lovingly baked cakes in the window of the former porn shop.

And if your coffee takes longer and evening has already broken over Munich, you can go straight for a Gin and Tonic at Frau Bartels, AWI, Perlwerk...

Aroma Kaffeebar / Pestalozzistraße 24  / Monday – Friday: 07.00–20.00 and Saturday & Sunday: 09.00–20.00

Pizza, Pasta and Amore

Pizza, Pasta and Amore in Munich

As Italy's most northern city, in 'Monaco di Baviera' we can easily keep pace with the pizza and pasta that we would otherwise enjoy in Bella Italia.

So you don't need to get bored in a traffic jam on the Brenner autobahn, but take your place right at the table, and we will show you our favourite Italian in the city...

The Italian Shot

The pizza creations are extraordinary, the ambiance simple and cosy, and the pizza chef an Italian original. When looking for a pizza, you should drop by the Italian Shot in Holzstraße, and we recommend 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly', a pizza with Gorgonzola, buffalo mozzarella and pear carpaccio, or the pizza Sicilian Shepherd with goat's cheese, arugula, walnuts and Parma ham.

Hungry? Then make your way, as walking it's only a few minutes from our Cocoon Hotels to Pizza heaven.

A visit to Mama in La Fattoria

Taking the U2 from Hauptbahnhof to the other side of the Isar up to Kolumbusplatz and you can imagine yourself in an Italian living room, that you perhaps never had but always wanted. You hardly notice Fattoria in der Au from outside, but the pasta specialities such as truffle pasta in Parmesan sauce, will put a large smile on your face. The dessert dishes with the best Tiramisu and Limoncello on the house make it really difficult to leave, but as is well known you'll be back to Munich...

La Fattoria / Schlotthauerstraße 16 / Monday - Saturday: 18.00–01.00 and Sunday: 18.00–00.00

Spaghetti with mussels in the small Quattro Tavoli

The direct way from our Cocoon Hotels is the S8 from Hauptbahnhof to Kapuzinerstraße. The short journey by S-Bahn is worth it, as small but impressive Italian awaits you.

Roast beef, Spaghetti with mussels, and also crispy pizzas – everything tastes like Italy here, and feels that way as well. Great atmosphere, nice waiters, and this particular attitude to life... the evening can only go well here.
